Why Your Home Can Be the Best Photo Studio for Maternity Sessions

When it comes to capturing life’s most special moments, sometimes the best setting is right at home! Recently, I had the chance to work with this amazing couple who wanted their maternity session to take place in their soon-to-be baby’s nursery. It was almost ready, with just one wall left to paint. This intimate and personal setup created a beautiful canvas for capturing candid, fun and authentic moments!

Capturing Life’s Intimate Moments

This couple’s vision was to show the sweet, almost-finished nursey with just a few finishing touches to go. We kept the props minimal to let the story unfold naturally. All we used was a vintage wood ladder, chair, paint cans and brushes! Fun fact: while we focused on one half of the room, the other side already had the crib and dresser in place!

Getting Creative in Tiny Spaces

The nursery was, admittedly, a tiny room. This made the shoot a fun creative challenge for me as a photographer. I found myself in some pretty unique positions to get the best angles, from crouching down to shooting from above. The close quarters made every shot feel intimate and special!

To wrap up the session, we included the couple’s first “baby” - their dog! Pets are such an important part of the family, and they add an extra layer of love to these memories. The dog was thrilled to join in, and created such a warm ending to this at-home shoot.
